While Holograms‘ synthesizers deviated sharply from the post-punk palette the band otherwise faithfully sampled, Forever uses its synths as seamless ballast. Instead of competing for foreground.

Forever takes a deeper look into these harsh feelings, losing none of Holograms' youthful energy, but turning the darkness inward and expanding their sound somewhat. The scrappiness in the earlier recordings that pushed some songs into an almost garage rock aesthetic is completely gone, replaced by a sullen airiness.

Clearly, Holograms show no signs of slowing down the excitement and aggression of their original sound, something to delight their growing audience in this current world of arrogant sonic about-faces on sophomore albums. Forever is more than the next set of songs from Holograms. It’s a fully realized album that fans will relish for years to come.
